So, about a year ago, I woke up and felt off.
Not just tired. Not just sore.
Different.
It was about three am and when I went to roll on my side I realized……I couldn’t move.
Naturally I started to panic. I felt confused and scared.
I was scared I had messed up spine. And for those who don’t know I underwent a spinal fusion 6-7 years ago. Something I found out when I got older was that I could re-injure my back at any time.
That 3 a.m. wake-up call was not what I was expecting. I felt like I was too young to be paralyzed.
I was dealing with nerve issues in my back something I didn’t fully understand at the time and for a moment, I experienced what it felt like to lose control of my own body.
It is a feeling that stays with you.
It changes the way you look at your health.
The way you listen to your body.
The way you approach healing.
Becoming More Aware of Healing.
Since then, I’ve become a lot more aware of how the body works and more importantly, how it heals.
Not just on the surface.
But internally.
Because the truth is, everything is connected.
Your skin.
Your nervous system.
Inflammation.
Stress.
It all plays a role.
And stepping into a new environment at a wellness center, I will be formally introduced to treatments that go beyond what I was originally taught in esthetics.
One of those being…. Cryotherapy.

What Is Cryotherapy.
If you’ve never heard of it before, cryotherapy is a form of cold therapy where the body is exposed to extremely low temperatures for a short period of time.
It may sound intense but there are reasons people are drawn to it.
The goal is to:
- Reduce inflammation.
- Support muscle recovery.
- Improve circulation.
- And promote overall wellness
It’s not just about the cold; it’s about how your body responds to it.
Who It Helps.
From what I’ve learned so far, cryotherapy can be beneficial for a variety of people including:
- Individuals dealing with inflammation or chronic pain
- Athletes looking to support recovery and performance
- People experiencing muscle soreness or tension
- Those interested in boosting circulation and energy
- Individuals exploring holistic or wellness focused treatments
And something that personally stood out to me….
People dealing with nerve related discomfort.
Who It Might Not Be For.
Like anything, cryotherapy might not be for everyone.
There are certain conditions where it may not be recommended, especially for individuals who may be sensitive to extreme cold or have specific medical concerns.
This is why it’s always important to:
- Consult with a professional
- Understand your body
- And make informed decisions
Because wellness isn’t always one size fits all.
Why I’m Interested.
I’ll be honest…
I haven’t tried cryotherapy yet.
But after everything I experienced last year, I’ve become a lot more open to exploring different ways to support my body and overall health.
Not from a place of fear.
But from a place of curiosity.
Because when you’ve gone through something that makes you feel disconnected from your own body, you start to value anything that helps you feel aligned with it again.
Another strong reason I am interested in the treatment is because as you guys may know I am relocating and my new job specializes in this treatment. With my past health experience choosing this career path made a lot of sense and I felt aligned with their mission and values.
Focusing on whole body and mental health as an integrated system and helping clients either relive pain or relax and unwind is a very big driving point to me as well as expanding the esthetics horizons within scope to be an example for others.
That’s what drew me to this.
The Bigger Picture.
This experience has made me realize something biger.
Esthetics isn’t just about the surface.
It’s truly about understanding the body as a whole unit.
How internal health reflects externally.
How inflammation, stress, and lifestyle all show up in ways we don’t always recognize.
And how treatments whether it’s skincare or something like cryotherapy can play a role in that bigger picture.
The Takeaway
I’m still learning.
Still exploring.
Still figuring out what works best for me.
But if there’s one thing I know for sure, It’s this:
Taking care of your body goes beyond just one approach.
It’s not just skincare.
It’s not just treatments.
It’s not just one solution.
It’s how everything works together.
Your lifestyle.
Your stress levels.
Your nervous system.
Your habits.
And sometimes, stepping outside of what you know and being open to something new can introduce you to a completely different level of healing.
